| It’s no accident that students
at SMDS-RJA learn to see the world through Reform Jewish
eyes. The Judaic studies curriculum engages them
in the study of study Jewish life through emphasis
on Torah, Israel, mitzvoth, t’filah, Hebrew
language and history. Students develop a love and
respect for the Hebrew language, a proficient knowledge
of prayer, and the ability to speak and read the
living language of modern Israel.
Kindergarten-Grade 3: Jewish holidays, prayer,
community, Israel, Hebrew and Torah.

• Grade 3: Genesis chapters
1-25 (in Hebrew) with rabbinic commentaries, Torah Cantillation
• Grade 4: Theme of "Miracles", Continue to improve Torah cantillation skills, Genesis Chapter 26 (Toldot) - Chapter 50 (Va'yichi), Rabbinic Commentary, Pirkei Avot
• Grade 5: Ethical Living, Building and Sustaining Community with study emphasis on Pirkei Avot and the Early Prophets (Joshua, Samuel, Saul, David and Solomon); continue to participate in community mitzvot, develop tools necessary to make informed decisions about personal commitments and community responsibility. Our fifth grade students will also study an overview of the development of the Jewish community in the United States (Civil War to present day).
