| The Science program is built on
a child’s curiosity and desire to make sense
of the natural world. Students are taught to observe
and explain the natural world with precision and
insight, and to apply scientific concepts and technologies
to all facets of life.
Kindergarten:
Plants and animals; matter and natural change;
care of environment; day/night, seasons, planets;
hygiene, nutrition and safety
Grade 1:
Plants and animals; matter and natural change;
conservation, recycling and habitats (desert and
temperate); weather, rocks, parts of the earth;
hygiene, nutrition, safety, fitness and disease
Grade 2:
Plants and animals, the human body, the digestive
system; simple machines, gravity, sound and light;
ecosystems, habitat-current issues, rainforests;
solar systems, plate-tectonics; nutrition and
disease (virus, parasite, bacteria)
Grade 3:
Food chains, adaptations; travels of sound, travels
of light; constellations, planets and weather;
earth and water, prairies and grasslands; the
human eye, ear, skin, muscles and bones.
Grade 4:
Life Science: Plant structure and genetics; Physical Science: Introduction to electricity and magnetism; Earth and Space: Land formations; Environment and Ecology: River pollution and waste; Health: Nervous system and reproductive system.
Grade 5:
Life Science: Microorganisms and cells; Physical Science: Chemistry-mystery powders; Earth and Space: Flight and space exploration; Ecosystems; Health: Microorganisms and disease, drug awareness, respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
